Sonya Keshwani, the founder of StyleEsteem Wardrobe, and Nick Pologeorgis, Co-owner of Pologeorgis luxury outerwear have teamed up to create luxury fur headwear. The collaboration started last year when Keshwani joined the outerwear company's Industry Insiders campaign. On October 1st the retail store at 25 Lewis Street in Greenwich will host an event with StyleEsteem to celebrate the collaboration and support Breast Cancer Alliance.
"As a breast cancer survivor I experienced the challenges of losing my hair to chemotherapy," explained Keshwani. She continued, "I was 29 and frustrated with the limited options available for inspiring head coverings so I decided to take matters into my own hands." Being a creative person, Keshwani drew from her love of fashion and began visiting a fabric shop after each chemotherapy infusion and experimented with her mom’s sewing machine. As her personal collection of headwear started to grow, so did her confidence, as she regained her voice and power through this new passion. Inspired by the elegant and feminine silhouette of the turban, she made the bold move and launched StyleEsteem Wardrobe, the first fashion label to design headwear according to the season and occasion.
The collaboration will feature a black sheared rabbit headpiece starting at $250 available online and at the Greenwich retail shop, it is made in the classic StyleEsteem style and it is a one size fits all; a beige limited edition sheared rabbit headpiece; a black sheared mink headpiece for a more luxe version that is made-to-order ($1,000); a non-fur tie-dyed goat headpiece that is also a limited edition ($350); and lastly, a camel silky lamb headpiece that is also made-to-order ($500).
Pologeorgis, known for custom outerwear and home decor, is a member of the International Fur Federation and holds the global certificate Furmark, which guarantees animal welfare and environmental standards for natural fur. Furmark-certified products are traceable, verified and guaranteed to meet numerous recognized standards, and selected by a panel of industry stakeholders, scientists, sustainability leaders and welfare experts. Consumers are now able to access a wealth of information from leading animal welfare programs that makes the entire supply chain transparent for wild and farmed natural fur. The brand has plans to partner with other Greenwich locals on custom outerwear for men and a new home decor pieces.
Keshwani envisions StyleEsteem headpieces as one-of-a kind crowns for the modern man and woman. With a history dating back as far as 5,000 years, she believes that headpieces can be a symbol of empowerment and self-expression for everyone, regardless of their gender, cultural background, or hair journey. In addition to her groundbreaking work in fashion, Sonya is on the Board of Twist Out Cancer, served as a Susan G Komen NYC Power Ambassador, is the Rear Commodore at the Old Greenwich Yacht Club, and is a faculty member at Columbia University.
Pologeorgis also has a collaboration in its 7th year with fashion icon, Kelly Killoren Bensimon and will host another event for Breast Cancer Alliance with Bensimon on October 17th. For more information and store hours please visit Pologeorgis online (pologeorgis.com).
