Have you ever said to yourself “I think I’ve died and gone to hat heaven”? Well you might if you’ve attended the Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon a signature event of the Central Park Conservancy's Women’s Committee. I was steeped in anticipation as my invitation to one of New York’s hallmark society events arrived. Not only is this event responsible for millions of dollars in fundraising to support our beloved Central Park, it is a mecca for the most creative and extravagant headwear you can imagine.
Our team had dreamed up a vision for an earth tone African inspired gele with gold accents throughout, adorned with jewel tone garden flowers and butterflies. Oh and there were matching gloves to boot!
This bespoke matching hat and gloves design stood out in the crowd amongst many hats that were stunning in their own right. I had the best time as I floated through the beautiful Central Park Conservancy and bumped brims with familiar faces like Katie Couric, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Swimsuit Illustrated cover girl Martha Stewart, prima ballerina Misty Copeland and wife of Chef Daniel Boulud Katherine Gage. And even though I am still walking on cloud 9 from all the wonderful compliments on our couture turban, all the dazzling hat designs, and all the new friendships, you guessed it, I am already dreaming up of designs for next year’s Hat Luncheon at Central Park.
